Spending more time finding the can opener, a favorite pair of shoes or the most recent electrical bill only means one thing – YOU HAVE A DISORGANIZED HOME! Wasting time just to find things you need for your everyday routine causes a lot of stress when there is a solution to avoid it.
What people fail to realize is that organized homes save them more time, money and lessen their stress. It can be a very fulfilling and satisfying achievement.
If this problem of disorganization is already facing you straight in the eye, you may have to do something to straighten your house and your life as well.
1. Set goals when you are starting to get organized. This is more effective than doing things all at the same time and continuing the next day. Do one area at a time. If you did not finish on time, have a storage place for things you took out from their original place and clear the new space where you plan to put them.
2. Small steps are more fulfilling and easy to accomplish. Do not try to aim big when you are fully aware of your busy schedule. Do things that will likely give you less stress and not really disrupt your everyday schedule.
3. Set a deadline. Clutter starts giving you problems if you keep on storing things for purposes that in the long run are not served anyway. If you want to keep things be sure to set time limits for them and if the reason for keeping them does not come through then do not hesitate to use, give or throw them away.
4. Store items only if they have realistic purposes. Such as in clothes, do not wait for your weight to drop just so you can keep your jeans and other dresses. The chance that this will not happen is high. Having realistic goals will save you more money because you can easily identify what you need and buy those items only.
5. If you are starting to get organized, be sure that you are focused. Do not allow yourself to be distracted. Do things one day at a time.
6. As you go along with your organizing, you will encounter items that you are unsure of - whether to give it away or keep it. What you can do is have separate storage containers for each of the classified items like those you are unsure of, sentimental items given to you that you still want to keep and those that may need to be repaired whenever it is convenient for you to do so.
Remember, having an organized home makes life much easier for you.

There are people out there who have all the means to operate in such a business but fail along the way because they cannot put their heart and mind into it. In short, you should be doing something that you like.
Volunteer Group – Todays’ employers are looking for people who have a heart for the business of interior or exterior organization. A good quality they are looking for is the various internships or volunteer work you have involved yourself in and the amount of time you have dedicated yourself to the cause.
It’s almost impossible to convince people of your apparent interest in such a field if there is no evidence of immersion on your part in the field in question.
Flexibility – employers in this business expect that the prospective applicants are someone who can be flexed in times of need. The business may require one to relocate due to a business demand and you are expected to yield to such expectations.
The ability to travel and willingness to relocate are some factors the big honchos are trying to look for in a certain aspirant. Consider your priorities and try to be clear on your borders and expectations.

Do you shudder when you think of people coming over to visit unannounced? Do you panic when you get a message on your answering machine that family is coming—and they left 4 hours ago (and it’s a 5 hour trip)? Do you try to “clean” before your cleaning lady comes? Can you not afford a cleaning lady and try to do it yourself, ending up discouraged, frustrated, and thinking it’s just impossible?
The real key here is to take it a step at a time. Take it at your own pace. This IS a fight that you CAN and WILL win! You will have to commit to having less “stuff” if your home and letting go of the sacred-cows you’ve hung on to for all these years (but please note that these cows haven’t lifted a finger to help you get organized or clean—they only collect dust and take up space!). This isn’t having “Clean Sweep” come to your home and do the work for you—it’s all *your* work.
Don’t worry. It can all be done in a few minutes each day. Yes, you, too can occupy a relatively clean environment as long as you relax and let go of “it’s-got-to-be-perfect-itis”.
Ready for step one? Good. We’re going to declutter first – set a timer and put on some energizing music to get you going. Decide that you’re only going to declutter for 15 minutes in one certain room. Then if you want to work longer, say, another round of 15 minutes, you can. But you don’t have to. This helps you get motivated, even when you feel like cleaning is the last thing you’d want to tackle. Yep- psyche yourself out.
Go from room to room one day, just decluttering – 15 minutes in each room. Some rooms might take only five minutes – there’s a good feeling! Others might take 30 minutes before you can walk through the room without tripping over something. It’ll all average out.
Then on day two, go back to your first room and surface clean. Wipe off counters, sinks, flat surfaces. Then spot vacuum. If there’s a stain on the kitchen floor, spot clean that baby. Day three, pick another room. Day four, still another. If you’re so motivated one day and get on a roll, surface clean two rooms.
After you’ve decluttered, we’re going to take fifteen minutes a day and do some deeper cleaning in each room. You know, vacuuming thoroughly, dusting, swatting away cobwebs, etc.
Now, if you just repeat this simple schedule, you’ve got a house that would at least make the grade on a pass-fail system. That takes a load off your mind and alleviates stress in your family relationships.
Remember, it’s better to do a little each day and get the job done, than to stress out in an embarrassingly cluttered environment because you’re too overwhelmed to even start. Go ahead – set that timer!

My room was a mess
People have commented that it is very easy to lose things in my room. Hell, I lost stuff too. It was because I was terribly untidy, I was a “neat” untidy person. I had LOTS of stuff. Stuff that I keep hoarding thinking that I might use it in the future or I can pass on to the “next generation”…All my stuff were very neat piles of:

- product boxes

I seem to just collect small bits and pieces everyday and over several years, the space just crowded up and cleaning was a nightmare!!!
Do I have a problem?
I have bought books, listened to goodwill advise from friends, parents…etc. I even tried “Clear your mess” or “secrets to a tidy home” and they were ok but did not give me the ideas to remove the junk in a organized and meaningful way. The most important of all, is to keep myself clutter free forever. How do you feel when there is a mess? Are you a hoarder? Or do you hate to throw things out because “you might need it later on”? I have struggled with mess, consider this:

WE TELL OURSELVES A LIE
My house was a mess for years. Truth be told, I had a messy house before I had kids. I never picked up after myself.
” I told myself I’m too busy.”
Once the kids came along, and then the business, my fate was sealed. Or so I thought. I really did. I tried. Contrary to popular belief, I was not sitting around watching soaps and eating bonbons all day! In fact, I saw myself working harder than a lot of people with clean houses that I knew. I never could understand.
But it never made any difference. Because deep down, at my core, I truly believed that it just couldn’t be done, certainly not by me. I had proved it over and over again. Every time I tried… and every time I quit trying. But I believed that I would have a clean house some day. Unfortunately, that day was never today.
ONE DAY – ONE CHANGE – ONE MINUTE
Years passed, circumstances changed, but the mess was constant. Until one day I realized that I had been wrong. Yes indeed, there were plenty of things in my life beyond my control. Kids growing up. Cars breaking down. Loved ones passing. But one day it hit me. I could keep a clean house.
That took hands… my own two hands. Guess who controls my hands? I do! It took me one minute to decide and take action. That day was the first day that I lived in a clean house. I felt my power grow with each day that passed. I was no longer weighed down by the feeling of failure. I had room to move. Room to be myself.
One day at a time. One task everytime.

Messy homes can accumulate quickly when we are busy with life and work. Each day we come home and do not feel like doing the dishes, laundry, bathroom, and other tasks around the house. Before we know what happens, it is the weekend and we are facing a messy house from top to bottom. How do we attack this problem when we do not have a ton of time? I have your answers my friend. Here are some tips on cleaning an entire messy home quickly and efficiently:
- Get motivated! The hardest part of cleaning a messy home is making up your mind that you are going to do it and starting. Get a plan in place for your homemaking and get started!
- The plan is very important in cleaning a messy house. The bottom line is to get the house back to some level of cleanliness. When your house is extremely messy, there is only so much you can do in one day. That said, you need to sit down with a piece of paper and pencil and map out a strategy.
- List all the rooms in your house that are messy. Include any areas that are messy such as the laundry rooms and mud rooms, along with all the usual rooms. Once you have them written down, then you need to write down the three tasks that need the most attention in each room. For example, in the kitchen you might list the dishes, mopping, and cleaning out the fridge. Whatever needs doing the most. This will give you focus for each room, and keep you from drifting into the little bitty tasks that normally side track you and take up your time.
It is vital that you stick to the three tasks and then move on. Pick three tasks that will have the most impact in that individual room. That way, you are getting an overall cleaning of the house rather than one really clean room and five extra messy ones. You can always go back to your rooms and fine tune them later, and you will be much more likely to do so if they are generally already clean.
When you begin doing your tasks, always do the ones you dread the most. The rest will be easier to motivate for when you begin to get tired. Never put off the worst for the last. It always makes finishing much more difficult in a messy house. Also, if you are already vacuuming and another room is on the list to be vacuumed, go ahead and knock that out as well. This is true of any tasks that mirror one another.
If you use this plan, you will be amazed at how much cleaning you get done in a very short period of time. Also, do not forget to involve the entire family in the cleanup to increase your productivity.
